Lost Tapes – The Bill.
I was driving home in the wet dank dark of an Irish winter’s evening yesterday, droning home from Belfast [Irish. Béal Feirste – which translates as “It’s grim up north”] when an unexpected missive landed in my lap. It was Rj from one of SWIT’s very favourite outfits – Lost Tapes. He was sending their new tune “The Bill” and he signed off with “here comes the sun”. I bashed it on the in-car stereo and it flooded my cockpit with joy – was this divine intervention? a crack in the clouds and a hand reaching down to me? It would appear so.
“The Bill” Is something else – cascading percussion, dreamy, breathless vocals, all underpinned by some of the slickest disco funk you’ll hear this side of Orange Juice. Which is quite appropriate, as RJ says “it’s our homage to 80’s jangle pop, to Edwyn Collins.” It’s a wonderfully executed pastiche and another cracking tune from the boys. We are delighted to premiere the video for The Bill today – the film, by Adriá Martínez Roda, is a nicely-judged, hazy nostalgia trip. The song is the lead track from their forthcoming EP, released on Shelflife/Kocliko Records/Shiny Happy Records. It’s their first newbie in three years and it’s just great to have Pau Roca and Rj Sinclair, those upstanding gentlemen of pure pop, back on our turntables. It’s Friday now in Dublin and the sun is shining! Thanks lads.

I don’t know what DI Burnside would have said, probably “you’re nicked son”.
