A Slice Of Life- demo ep
Dirk Vreys dropped us a line “my band A Slice Of Life is rehearsing in Antwerp for about a year and we played our first gigs last week. We will be playing on the last day of W-Festival 2018 next summer, the biggest new wave festival in Belgium including bands as Antipole, Clan of Xymox, Project Pitchfork, Suicide Commando, Midge Ure, ABC, Kim Wilde, Lebanon Hanover, Chameleons UK, and so on. There are six of us and our music maybe could be qualified as a trip to the wave, postpunk, gothic rock from the 80s.”
Indeed it could, I guess bands like The Cure, The Bunnymen, The Psychedelic Furs and a host of others immediately spring to mind when you listen to the band’s imaginatively named demo ep which is called “demo ep”. “So far, so what?” I hear you mutter, you cynical bastards. Well, this is so what, regardless of what it reminds you of, these guys have a real feel for a tune and it’s beautifully produced as well (and remember, it’s “only a demo”). The five tracks here are immediately catchy. it’s hard to pick out a favourite, currently, I’m leaning towards “Sorrow” and “Restless Gods”, “The Restless Gods are coming our way and they’re here to stay”…which is apt as I sit here typing this in the middle of hurricane Ophelia. I could have sworn for a minute that it was David Bowie doing a nixer from Tin Machine. Right, I’m calling it for Restless Gods, nice work gents.
