I’m off to watch Mayo play Dublin (again) in the All-Ireland final today. I’m from Mayo and we’ve been in many finals over the past 15 years or so, however, we’ve lost all of them. In fact we’ve won SFA since 1951 so you could say we’ve been sipping on sorrow for much too long, much too long.
The new video for “Sipping On Sorrow” is just perfect, I guess reflecting the troubles that Greece has been through of late (troubled times we’ve shared in Ireland) – watching the homeless couple find happiness in adversity reflects perfectly the song’s message of light in the darkness. Watch out for the painting in there. The song is from the brilliant album “Half A Century Sun” which won a coveted SWIT “Long Player Of The Week” not so long ago. I was listening to Deezer on shuffle yesterday and “Sipping On Sorrow” came on after “Town Feeling” by Kevin Ayers, it was the perfect segue and I can’t say fairer than that.
If our sorrow-sipping days are over and Mayo win today SWIT may go off-air for a while but normal service will be resumed soon(ish)!
